Oakwood is a specialist College for young people aged 16-25 with a range of disabilities and primarily a diagnosis of autism, many of whom have additional disabilities. We were graded 2 (Good) by Ofsted in 2018, and OFSTED graded the learner’s opportunities for Personal development and behaviour as Outstanding.
\r\nOur success has seen a huge increase in learner applications to learn at Oakwood. We have recently invested significantly in our campus at Dawlish to ensure the highest quality of learning spaces, and also opened an additional campus for learners in Yate, South Glos.
\r\nAs a result of this growth, we are recruiting for highly skilled teachers of SEND to come and join us at our Dawlish Campus. Set on the Coast with fantastic access to community activities and a beautiful commute from Exeter and Torquay, we are proud of the Oakwood community and the environment we work within.
\r\nOur teachers join us from a range of backgrounds, and we welcome applications for those with primary, secondary and further education experience. We offer specialist training and development from our therapies teams in areas such as communication, emotional regulation, attachment & trauma and Positive Behaviour Support (PBS). Teachers are well supported by curriculum leaders and senior managers that offer a wealth of coaching and development opportunities.
\r\nOakwood Teachers deliver to one main group that is allocated to them at the beginning of the academic year and will often take that group all the way through their journey at the College. Maths and English are taught by specialist teachers, therefore the focus of Oakwood teachers is to deliver a balanced programme of learning which includes personal development, enrichment & expressive arts, health and wellbeing, duke of Edinburgh and vocational learning. Of course, the significant focus of the learning is the delivery of a curriculum that enables learners to meet the outcomes and goals detailed in their Education, Health and Care plans through project based learning.
